Brian Pera lives and works in Memphis, TN. He is the author of the novel Troublemaker (St. Martin's Press, 2000) and the writer/director of the recently completed feature film Other Way Round. He has several notebooks full of black and white line drawings, many of which were originally intended to illustrate an exquisite corpse he and a group of twelve or so other writers and artists wrote. That story has never been published, and Pera abandoned the idea of illustrating it after realizing how long it would take him, and how many novels and films he could complete in that time. At one point, he kept a sketch journal, using it as a way to wake up his mind in the morning, but there's a wide gulf between the way he'd like to draw and the way he actually can, and though he can bridge the gap, he's no Henry Darger, and lacks the discipline or the derangement to devote himself to such an often seemingly insurmountable endeavor. He satisfies the urge through his website, lowblueflame.com.
