Six Little Things • Issue 2: Little did they know...
The photographs that accompany the six pieces in this issue were taken at the Hudson Strode House in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Hudson Strode, who died in 1976, was an author and teacher and major benefactor of the University of Alabama's English Department. In the 1940s and 1950s Strode's bestselling books on Scandinavia (including the landmark Denmark Is A Lovely Land) increased American awareness of Scandinavian literature, culture, and design. The Strode House is a showpiece of mid-century modern furniture. The whole place is a little shabby, though. It needs something like a benevolent foundation to help it out, I think.
